Description
The vessel at the time of discovery held a glass ear adornment inside, and the excavation of the tomb also yielded bead adornments, copper coins, copper plaques, and bronze bells. This reddish-brown sand-tempered vessel is entirely coated in reddish-brown clay slip. It features a slightly wide mouth with four lip-like structures inside, collared neck, bulging body, and circular base. The outer edge of the rim bears a decorative ridged motif applied directly to the surface, while the body has five likewise applied concentric bands of engraved relief patterns: the upper four resemble rhombuses and the bottom row forms a square checkered motif. Despite being of the predominant ceramic type found at the Shih-san-hang (Shihsanhang) archaeological site, this vessel’s form and intricate motifs are exceptionally refined and rare among those of prehistoric culture in Taiwan.
